Mechanical Engineer

At Replenysh we're looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team.
Full-time · Orange County / Remote

Replenysh is building the technology and infrastructure to recover the $1 trillion worth of materials that are landfilled globally each year.

We’re on a mission to replace waste with a thriving circular commerce system where materials are continuously cycled, landfills become obsolete, and every product serves as a resource for the next. Our platform empowers brands to recover materials directly from their customers, transforming supply chains to prioritize circularity, transparency, and regeneration. Replenysh is revolutionizing how businesses interact with materials and the environment with scalable infrastructure and an open-standard approach.

Our investor base includes Kindred Ventures (Coinbase, Perplexity, Uber), Floodgate Fund (Lyft, Okta, Twitch) and many other visionary investors.

Position Overview:
We seek an experienced and highly capable Mechanical Engineer with a passion for designing impactful systems to lead the development of innovative material handling and compaction solutions. The role requires a strong foundation in engineering fundamentals, creativity, and a results-oriented mindset. This individual will work closely with our team to conceptualize, prototype, and refine a first-of-its-kind product that meets stringent operational and cost constraints.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data-Driven Design: Use data and analysis to make fast, informed, and objective design decisions, even with partial information. Perform trade studies to evaluate design options using first principles and engineering fundamentals.

  • Conceptual and System Design: Collaborate with stakeholders to transform high-level concepts into practical systems. Develop innovative solutions for material compaction, processing, and mobility.

  • CAD and Modeling: Create 3D CAD models and engineering drawings, optimizing designs for manufacturability and functionality.

  • Hydraulic and Mechanical Systems Development: Design and implement efficient hydraulic systems to power compaction mechanisms, ensuring robustness and safety.

  • Trailer Systems: Design and optimize trailer frameworks, chassis, axles, and tires for mobile applications, ensuring compliance with road regulations.

  • Prototyping and Fabrication: Oversee prototyping efforts, including sourcing components and working with fabricators to build and test systems under real-world conditions.

  • Testing and Validation: Conduct rigorous testing to validate performance, safety, and durability. Iterate designs based on test results and feedback.

  • Entrepreneurial Execution: Demonstrate resourcefulness and ingenuity to meet tight timelines and budgets while achieving ambitious goals.

  • Resilience and Innovation: Overcome challenges and adapt to evolving constraints, proving that seemingly impossible goals can be realized.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from a rigorous, highly regarded program.

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on compaction systems, hydraulics, or material handling equipment.

  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and the ability to solve problems using first principles.

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).

  • Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication processes.

  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems design and implementation.

  • Familiarity with trailer systems, including chassis, suspension, and tires.

  • Ability to use data to make fast, informed decisions and perform trade studies effectively.

  • Demonstrated success in fast-paced, competitive, or resource-constrained environments.

  • Proven ability to learn rapidly and take on increasing responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in mobile or trailer-mounted equipment design.

  • History of excelling in ultra-competitive environments (e.g., top percentile standardized test scores, engineering/math/science competition recognition).

  • Passion for building hardware that operates in the real world and solves tangible problems.

  • Demonstrated success in balancing multiple endeavors simultaneously (e.g., working while studying, excelling as a student athlete, or thriving in multiple disciplines).

  • Resilience and a track record of overcoming extreme odds or failure.

Why Join Us?

  • Impactful Work: Join a mission-driven company at the forefront of circular commerce, helping brands, businesses, and communities monetize their materials and drive regeneration.

  • Collaborative Environment: Work alongside passionate, collaborative professionals dedicated to making a difference.

  • Flexible Work Culture: Enjoy a culture that supports work-life balance and remote-friendly policies.

  • Comprehensive Benefits: Competitive salary, health benefits, and a generous PTO policy.

  • Professional Growth: Opportunities for learning, experimentation, and leadership within a fast-growing startup.

This is an opportunity to make an outsized impact by leading a groundbreaking product that revolutionizes recycling systems. If you’re ready to solve tough problems, push boundaries, and turn bold ideas into reality, we want to hear from you.
